Revitalizing the classic crossword for a new generation
For decades, crossword puzzles were trapped behind expensive newspaper paywalls or delivered in drab black-and-white print with clues catered strictly to 1960s opera buffs. On the other end of the spectrum, mobile stores flooded players with soulless algorithmic word-search clones loaded with intrusive pop-up ads.
MÉ-MO was founded to change that. We combine the intellectual satisfaction and wit of artisanal newspaper crosswords with the colorful, streak-building adventure of contemporary gamified apps like Duolingo. Our Editorial Process
Double validation of every single word and clue
The foundation of a great crossword is trust. When you get stuck on a difficult answer, the reveal must make you smile with an "aha!" moment—never groan at an unfair, misspelled, or hallucinated clue. That is why every MÉ-MO puzzle undergoes a strict four-stage quality assurance lifecycle:
Grid Engine (Technical Validation)
Grids are assembled by a constraint-solving engine that places words only from a curated lexicon and checks that every cell and every intersection fits exactly. Impossible or inconsistent grids are discarded automatically.
Clue Review (Linguistic Validation)
A separate linguistic review checks each answer and clue: spelling, accents, part of speech, gender and number agreement, and whether the clue really matches the answer without giving it away.
Quality Arbiter
A final arbiter compares both reports. A grid is only approved when the technical check and the linguistic review both pass. If either one rejects an entry, the grid is rejected or sent back for human review.
No Invented Words
AI may suggest candidates, but it never decides on its own that a word is valid. Every answer must come from the validated lexicon before it can appear in a puzzle.

Despite our strict double-validation process, language evolves and human slip-ups can occur. If you ever spot a questionable clue, ambiguous definition, or historical inaccuracy, we want to know.
Our editorial team reviews all reader submissions within 24–48 hours and publishes transparent errata when an update is warranted.
